Prices last checked 15 August 2026 and they move. Confirm the current price on the brand's own site before you buy. One manufacturer spec on this table contradicts itself and we use the lower figure: Celluma's page gives the HOME's treatment area as both "14" x 6"" and "472.3 cm²", which are not the same area. Fourteen by six inches is about 542 cm².

The measurement problem nobody in this category wants to explain

Before you compare a single spec sheet, you need to know why the irradiance numbers on them are close to useless.

Irradiance is the amount of light landing on a square centimetre of you, in milliwatts. Multiply it by session length in seconds, divide by a thousand, and you get dose in joules per square centimetre. That is the number that corresponds to anything in the published photobiomodulation literature. Twenty minutes at 70 mW/cm² is about 84 J/cm². Ten minutes at 52 mW/cm² is about 31 J/cm². Those are meaningfully different sessions, so the input number matters.

The problem is how the input number gets produced. The instrument most of this industry uses is a handheld solar power meter, a device designed to measure broadband sunlight and costing roughly what a red light panel's shipping does. Point one at a narrowband LED array and it over-reads, because its calibration assumes a spectrum it is not looking at. A spectroradiometer in a laboratory does not have that problem. It also costs several thousand dollars.

Mito Red is the only brand in this guide that puts both numbers in public. Three rules follow from it, and they will save you money:

  1. An irradiance figure without a stated distance is not a figure. "100 mW/cm² at the surface" and "73 mW/cm² at 6 inches" are the same Hooga HG300 panel described two ways. Light falls off fast with distance, so surface readings always look better.
  2. Treat anything above roughly 100 mW/cm² as a meter reading until proven otherwise. Mito Red's lab number sits at 52. Its consumer-meter number sits at 115. Guess which one most competitors publish.
  3. A brand publishing no irradiance is not necessarily weaker. It is unverifiable, which is a different problem. Celluma, LightStim and Solawave publish none, and all three hold FDA clearances that Bestqool and Hooga do not. Those are different kinds of evidence, and neither substitutes for the other.

One more spec-sheet habit worth decoding while you are here. Panel model numbers are usually nominal LED wattage, not power draw. The Hooga HG300 is 60 LEDs rated at 5W each, which is where the 300 comes from. Hooga's own page lists the actual power consumption at 80W. The MitoMIN 2.0 draws 85W. It holds a 4.6 average across 403 Amazon ratings, the strongest ratings profile of any device in this guide, and it is the cheapest by a distance.

The one useful thing on that spec sheet is that the irradiance figure comes with a distance attached: 70 mW/cm² at 3 inches, stated the same way in the specification block, the feature list and Bestqool's own product comparison table. That sounds like a low bar. Four of the nine devices here clear it and four publish no figure at all. At 70 mW/cm², a ten-minute session at that distance is about 42 J/cm², which is a real dose for a device that costs less than a pair of running shoes.

It is the most-reviewed device in this guide by a wide margin, at 4.6 across 1,366 Amazon ratings. That is the practical case for it. Not that its specs beat the MitoMIN 2.0's, but that more people have bought and kept one than anything else here.

Where it fits: this is the panel you buy when "portable" means "not bolted to a wall" rather than "in a suitcase". It has a tabletop stand, a 60-degree beam angle and enough throw that Hooga quotes a 31 by 28 inch coverage area at 18 inches. At 6 lb it is a two-hands-and-a-clear-shelf device.

It is here for two reasons. Its lab-verified 52 mW/cm² at 6 inches is a number you can actually trust, because it was measured the expensive way. And publishing the consumer-meter figure alongside it, over 115 mW/cm² at the same distance, is the most useful piece of disclosure in the category. It is the reason this page has a measurement section at all. A brand willing to show you both numbers is telling you something about how it operates.

At 7 lb and mains-powered, this is the least portable device in the guide and we have ranked it accordingly. If a small panel is what you want and the extra $50 over the HG300 buys you a verified irradiance figure and a kickstand, take it. Celluma states the treatment area twice on the same line and the two versions do not match: "14" x 6"" and "472.3 cm²", where 14 by 6 inches is about 542 cm². The likeliest explanation is that one describes the panel outline and the other the actually-illuminated region, but Celluma does not say, so we use the smaller figure. It runs cordless on a 7,000 mAh battery, giving three to fifteen cycles per charge depending on program, with a 2.5 hour recharge. Celluma recommends up to 30 minutes a day. Two-year warranty with an optional third.

The reason it earns its price is regulatory rather than photonic. It is FDA cleared for aging skin and for pain, which puts it in a different category from the panels above it on this list. Hooga states the belt's temperature rise stays under 41°C. Warranty is one year with a 60-day trial.

Two honest problems. First, the Amazon listing's own size attribute reads "120 LEDs with Rechargeable Battery" while the title and Hooga's site both say 405 tri-chip LEDs. Those could be reconciled, since 405 tri-chip emitters is 1,215 diodes and 120 might describe something else entirely, but Hooga has not reconciled them anywhere we can find. Treat the LED count as unsettled.

Second, it averages 3.7 across 41 Amazon ratings. For context, Hooga's HG300 panel sits at 4.6 across 1,366. That is the same brand, so the gap is telling you something about this product rather than about the company.
